ImageThe survey process is now complete. In late July, we will inform all qualified participants whether or not they made the list of the 100 Best Nonprofits to Work For in Oregon that will appear in the October issue Oregon Business.

Nonprofits are an important sector in Oregon that employs more than 150,000 employees. To recognize that nonprofits are also key businesses critical to the economic health of the state, Oregon Business magazine launched last year its annual 100 Best Nonprofits to Work For in Oregon project. Oregon Business partners with Portland research firm Davis Hibbitts & Midghall to score and rank the winning 100 nonprofits.

There is no cost to participate and organizations may be headquartered anywhere. Survey reports will be available to all qualifying participants so, whether or not your nonprofit makes the list, seize this chance to obtain valuable employee feedback and compare your workplace practices to nonprofits throughout the state. All organization and employee information will be kept private.

Keeping employees happy

It’s challenging enough to keep employees happy and workplace morale high during the best of times. But what about in the worst of times?  Some, like Northwest Newborn (No. 2 Small), have found ways to maintain a high sense of satisfaction and loyalty.

Lessons of the not-so-great

Companies can often learn more about their workplaces issues from negative comments than from praise. Here's a sampling from some of the 100 Best employee surveys of what doesn't work, even from some of the best workplaces in the state.

Ingredients of a great workplace

What do the Top 10 Best Companies do that keeps their employees motivated, loyal and upbeat? Paying 100% of health insurance premiums and ugly t-shirt contests are part of it. And don't forget the persuasive powers of company pups like Frankie from Stamp Connection (No. 3 Small).
